CONVERSATIONS
WITH MYSELF

The Story
*Content Warning* I talk about rape: the impacts and the recovery. I don't share details of any events.
I'm a survivor of sexual violence*. As a result of being raped at the age of 17, I lived with fluctuating anxiety, depression, dissociation, flashbacks, and low standards for how I was treated in romantic-sexual relationships. Through journaling, creative writing, and song writing in my early 20s, (and high quality support from family and friends), I began to unpack the impacts of sexual trauma.
After receiving therapeutic support, and with a dead-end police investigation (read more), I began researching the impacts of rape and the possibility of recovery through autobiographical song writing. This formed the basis of my Masters research project, from which I created a model of recovery and a collection of 15 songs which documented and shaped my recovery from rape.
These songs form the album, Conversations with Myself.
This is a joyful album (believe it or not!); it's a journey of finding freedom and peace. Through the anger, through the shame, through the bitterness and rage... (that's a lyric, actually) I was able to let go of the narratives that don't serve me ("what if you've remembered it wrong and you're just making a big fuss for no reason") and bust a bunch of myths ("I don't deserve help"). The anger shifted the shame where I no longer felt silenced by the awful things that have been done to me, rather, I could talk about it... I could even sing about it. And in doing so, I found connection, celebration of resilience, and joy.
In 2026, I'm recording and making the album with Grand Chapel Studios. I successfully crowdfunded over £6k to fund the first phase of recording, paying the musicians, and studio hire fees. As of June 2026, I'm now in a position to crowd-fund for the post-production phase of the studio album. I will be applying for funding for mastering, digital ads, PR, and a series of live events for the album release.
I am so excited to share this record with you. It changed (maybe saved) my life, and I hope it inspires you to seek your own freedom and peace or, if you've already found it, allows you to celebrate your resilience.
* ‘Sexual violence’ is a term used to describe any sexual activity that happened without consent. (Rape Crisis, link)
